Saw this sign too, and who could pass up a scone?
We had to go there because we needed to get water. The road down to Ellenbrae was sandy and corrugated and we had to walk our bikes a numbers of times. The tow truck driver said it was the worst bit of road on the Gibb and he wasn't wrong.
A tour bus pulled up while we were there and they all wanted to talk to us and take our pictures. One American lady said she bowed down to us so I said I want to see that, so she did.
Ellenbrae Homestead was basic and the camping facilities even more so. Interesting toilet/bathroom set up though.
We were about 400 metres from a swimming hole at a creek, so went for a swim there first thing. Water was cold but refreshing. I overheard the manager talking to someone later and when asked if there was crocs in there she said only freshies and that her dog swims in there.
Went back to camp and read for awhile then walked back to the homestead for sandwiches for lunch.
Back to the swimming hole then more reading.
Had a warm shower heated by a fire and then had tea about 5:00.
All I can say is .... wish I was there! Sounds fantastic :-)
